The price of stress…
One month supply of Blood Pressure medicine - $30.00…or…a fishing trip in your 'Stash' closet…'Zero dollars'.
Typically, today's fast-paced and crazy lifestyles inevitably will lead us on a search for new ways to beat the stress of our high-pressure environment. Fortunately, there are hobbies that can act as stress relievers and quilting is said to be right up there in the top 10 stress reduction activities.
It only makes sense, if you take pleasure in doing something, then you will be concentrating on something positive and you tend to forget about your problems. In fact, medical studies have shown that there are physical, psychological, and spiritual benefits from sitting down to a sewing machine.
One study of 30 female heart patients reported in the American Journal Medical Association showed a significant decrease in heart rate, blood pressure, and perspiration rate while the subjects completed craft projects.
So, the next time hubby complains when you bring home more bundles of fabric … you can just smile and say, 'Doctors orders!'
And for some great new stress relieving projects, watch for our latest fall issue of Easy Quilts or our Baby Quilts issue, both are loaded with colorful new projects, some that can even be completed in a weekend!

Black and White
submitted by Judy D. Smith, Piedmont, AL.
When I received the March/April 2008 copy of your magazine, Love of Quilting, in the mail and turned to page 66 and saw "Study in Black and White" my mouth dropped open. That was THE quilt I have always wanted for our master bedroom. Julie Popa is an amazing designer.
Now months later our master bedroom and bath is completely remodeled around "Study in Black and White" and I wanted you to see the end result. Note: I purchased enough of the three fabrics I used, to make the quilt, curtains for 3 windows and the shower curtain.
Now that I live in Alabama your magazine is a "taste of home" to me as I was born and raised in Iowa and lived close to Winterset at one time.
Thank you for your magazine and the wonderful quilt from Julie Popa.
Thank you's…

I always look forward to your online newsletters and today was no exception. I save every issue I get of Fons & Porter Love of Quilting because each one is chuck full of helpful tips, ideas and many patterns to refer to when I get stuck. And I also renewed my subscription. I have been quilting for quite a while but I am still learning. When I read your newsletter this evening I was especially touched by the story and quilt picture along with it (Family Circle by Joahn Rodak). It was the most beautiful story I have read in a long time. And her quilt was just as beautiful. A truly lovely lady.
Keep up your good work.
Fit for a Queen
submitted by Susan Gordon.
Hi, I wanted to share the Flip Flop quilt I made for my daughter for graduating
from college.
I named it "Flip Flop Queen Fancy Free". She has worn flip-flops for many
years (of course and many colors:-).
Thank you for the fun pattern. That was the first time I have done appliqué
on a quilt. I really enjoyed it. Thank you again.
