Just take a look at all the new quilting designs out there and it’s quite obvious that both traditional and contemporary designers are having a great time. And personally, I think we should consider ourselves quite lucky to be invited to join in all of their fun.

Our new Spring issue of Easy Quilts is out now, and is filled with great examples of projects designed ‘just for fun’. And as always, most of the designs can take on a whole new life depending on your own personal style. Even simple color choices can result in a dramatic visual overhaul of the original design. A good example would be Gudren Erla’s Rectangle Quilt. Step up this design with your favorite student’s school colors and you have a bold stadium blanket that’s sure to be a touchdown. Or, soften the tones, and tweak the overall design a bit by replacing the central blocks with fabric photos (photo transfer paper is fun, easy, and addicting). Now, all of those favorite photos of your smiling grand-babies, (or perhaps those faithful friends, Spot and Fluffy), can become focal points in some great, new pop-art wallhangings—how fun is that!

And, be sure to check out the creative baby quilts featured in this issue. The designers have really stepped outside the box on some of these. Traditional soft pastels have been replaced with fun, trendy and bold fabrics – even geometric designs have found a place amongst all the puppy-dog tails and sugar and spice.
