Winter nights in the high desert of southern California get cold and my son Ryan asked me to make him a thick, heavy quilt. He loves denim so I recycled a set of old faded denim drapes and used some creamy wide-wale corduroy a friend gave me for this version of A Study in Black and White I found in the March/April 2008 issue of Love of Quilting. I had a scrap of deep red velvet and added 3 small inner squares just to break it up. For batting I used an inexpensive blanket and the backing is made up of several fleece throws I sewed together. Because it was so thick and heavy I tied it instead of having it machine quilted. Ryan loves it.
