It was nearly a year after my husband died before I got up the energy to clean out his closet. At about the same time, I had been browsing through your Fons & Porter’s book and saw the shirt and tie quilt someone had produced. I immediately thought I could do the same thing. I decided I wanted to include Square Dance shirts, which my husband had worn, and three of which had been made by our two daughters. The Square Dance shirts seemed to need the bolo ties my husband had been so very fond of, and all of them had interesting history, so I added the information under the embroidered back yoke of the one shirt my granddaughter had made and sewed to the back of the quilt. The quilt hangs on my living room wall and is the next best thing to having my husband sit beside me.
