40' x 25', 2008.Nova Scotia textile artist Karen Henry has been quilting for sixteen years, and looks to her family and the nearby natural surroundings for inspiration. Her father took a photo of several dories near Peggy's Cove, a rural community southwest of Halifax, which provided the genesis for this quilt. Three similar appliqud and hand-painted dories float inside the largest boat, which provides the framework of the quilt. Karen added beading and glittery tulle along the seam lines in the blue strips to capture sunlight sparkling on the water. Karen teaches all around the Maritimes and rents studio space in a house with six other quilters, where they share ideas and wine lunches.
