Texas photographer and graphic artist Clara Lawrence discovered quilting about six years ago, when she realized that she could combine her artwork, particularly horses, with pictorial quilting. A photograph she took of a stallion in a neighbor's barn sparked the idea for this quilt. Clara layered sheers on the cotton surface, added angora yarn to the mane, and heavily machine quilted the horse and background to give depth and a painterly feel to the quilt. This new quilter enjoys showing her horse portraits in national competitions, as well as spending time back on the ranch near Austin with her three sons.
