42' x 56', 2008.Jim Langland, co-owner of American Professional Quilting Systems, and Marilyn Badger, an award-wining quilter from Utah and longarm expert with APQS combined their talents to make this classical quilted horse portrait. With removable white chalk, Jim sketched this interpretation of a Lonardo da Vinci equestrian drawing on a rich mustard yellow hand-dyed cotton from Ricky Tims. This is Jim's third quilt inspired by a da Vinci drawing. Marilyn took Jim's rough fabric sketch, added borders to frame it, and machine-stitched the whole form in brown with her own line of Color Concepts thread from Superior Threads. She painted and shaded the figure with Tsukineko inks to give the horse depth, and completed the quilting on her longarm machine.
