64½' x 72', 2006.Quilting accolades have taken Kathy McNeil far from her home in the Pacific Northwest, but that is okay with her. This quilt is her tribute to America’s great rivers and the young men whose dreams created a nation. It won Best of Show at the 2007 Pacific International Quilt Festival, and now holds pride of place in the permanent collection at the Mark Twain Boyhood Home & Museum in Hannibal, Missouri. Kathy combined hand-dyed and painted fabrics with commercial cotton and even her husband’s favorite denim shirt to create this evocative fishing scene. She hand and machine appliquéd the top, and added a trapunto border to frame it.
