42' x 48', 2007It is hard to imagine that Pennsylvania quilter Joyce Hughes has only been quilting for two years. The self-taught artist loves to experiment with raw edge appliqu, thread painting, and embellishments, as seen in this quilt. This lively garden quilt was made for Joyce's mother, who is very supportive of her daughter's talent. It reflects the love that they have for nature and each other's company. Joyce feels that each quilt she designs challenges her to try a variety of new techniques, which add dimension and texture to her pieces. This quilt won the Best Use of Color award at the Pennsylvania National Quilt Extravaganza.Designer: Joyce Hughes * joycehughes567@aol.com
