Swiss-born artist Verena Levine has been quilting since 1979, and exhibiting her quilts throughout the United States. This lush garden was commissioned by the family of a volunteer at Prince William County Hospital in Manassas, Virginia, to be donated to the hospital. Verena started with a small drawing, and then cut and arranged the fabric on her design wall. She began with the background and added more detail, filling in the flowers and animals. Verena then divided the entire quilt into sections for machine appliqué, pieced them together, and machine and hand quilted the top. She recently had an exhibition at the Embassy of Switzerland in Washington, DC, her hometown for many years.
