Award-winning quilt artist, teacher, and pattern designer Cynthia England is well known for her exceptional pictorial quilts made with her innovative freezer paper technique called Picture Piecing. The Texan started quilting at age thirteen and describes herself as a crafty person, something most quilters can relate to. This view of a scene in a southern Tuscan village was inspired by a photograph taken by Terry Donnelly. In this quilt, Cynthia achieved her goal of capturing the interplay of light on the ancient cobblestones and through the archway. A close look reveals a bird and several insects hidden within the vine foliage. The quilt has more than 22,000 pieces and took nearly a year to complete.
