33' x 44', 2008Artistic expression abounds in Molly Waddell’s family. Her quilt was inspired by a painting done by her mother, now deceased, of the Thousand Islands Bridge that spans the St. Lawrence River from New York to Canada. Molly watched the bridge being built near her home, and her sister married an engineer that worked on it. Molly says she felt that her mother was guiding her as she sewed. The quilt was primarily constructed with edge-turned machine appliqué stitched with a small blind hemstitch. Molly painted some of the shadows, and added couching and tulle to enhance the subtle shading. This quilt won Best Pictorial at the Mid-Atlantic Quilt Festival in 2008. Molly teaches at the Tiger Lily Quilt Co. in Utica, New York.Designer: Molly Waddell
