New Jersey quilter Barbara Campbell designed her ode to lyrical cats as a challenge to interpret a poem in fabric. She chose "Song of the Jellicles" by T.S. Elliot, which became the basis for Andrew Lloyd Webber's Broadway hit musical "Cats." Barbara envisioned the cats on clouds of fabric with musical notes, frolicking in the night and celebrating the Jellicle Moon. She machine pieced, appliquéd, and quilted the textile montage, adding a valance and curtains to simulate a stage view. Barbara also applied a variety of embellishments, including buttons, feathers, google eyes, silk flowers, and decorative thread.
