62 1/2' x 41 1/4', 2006Barbara Barrick McKie brings nature to a new level in her hand-painted floral quilts. The Connecticut artist works from photographs of flowers in her garden to make realistic beauties such as this one. She used a disperse-dyed polyester technique for the petunias, which are machine appliquéd to a hand-painted silk background. Barbara free-motion satin stitched the details of the leaves, stems, and background. Purple Petunias was shown and sold at the 2006 International Quilt Festival. Barbara is an author, artist, and widely-exhibited quilter.
