Illinois quilter and artist Emily Parson says she grew up with a crafty mom, a dad who liked to make things, and two quilting grandmothers, so her creativity comes naturally. This quilt was part of her techno series, which was inspired by objects representative of fun family life, characterized by bright colors and thin squiggly lines. Emily used hand-dyed fabric and fused the Volkswagen Beetle's top, zigzag stitched around all the pieces, and machine quilted the narrow sections. It brought back memories of her father teaching her how to drive a VW stick shift, the car she drove cross-country to college. Emily shares her love for art with her three children, and runs a home-based business selling hand-dyed yarn. She also blogs about her crafty life.
