82' x 51', 2006In 1993, Judy Kriehn started quilting on a whim and found the art form that made her heart sing. Quilting speaks to her fascination with texture and her desire for a challenging medium. Judy credits Laura Wasilowski and Melody Johnson for the fabric fusing technique she incorporated into her exuberant Firewheel flowers. The memory of picking wildflower bouquets as a child inspired her to make this quilt. Judy machine quilted the individual hand-dyed fabric flowers and then stitched in 'ghost' images of the flowers in the background. Firewheels won First Place in the Master Large Appliqué group at the 2006 Dallas Quilt Celebration.
