My interest was heighted when I saw the words “fat-quarter friendly” for the Flying Geese quilt made by Marianne in the January/February 2008 issue of the Love of Quilting magazine. I made this quilt for my daughter who lives in San Francisco. I used batiks and Oriental fabrics to give the quilt a West Coast flavor. I chose to attach triple border instead of the appliquéd one.
The instructions gave the choice of cutting half and quarter-square triangles or using the Fons & Porter flying geese ruler. I had recently purchased this ruler and loved using it for the quilt. It made the whole experience more enjoyable. I really like the flying geese unit and hope to incorporate it into future projects.
After all, with my new ruler, I can make “geese” in many different sizes!
