It's amazing how much time we spend on preparations for a holiday—more than we actually end up spending with our friends and family. Days and weeks of cooking and shopping are followed by only hours of laughing, eating, and opening gifts.
Perhaps this is why we instinctively seek out ways to make those wonderful moments last even longer by creating heirloom gifts. In fact, a well-constructed quilt has the potential of being treasured for many generations to come. For this very reason, quality fabric and thread should always be at the forefront in preparing any new quilt.
Fons and Porter's Love of Quilting not only offers our readers a wide variety of ideas and patterns, we also work closely with our advertisers to assure our readers stay well versed and up-to-date on all of today's many products. So, just like preparing for a holiday, take your time and do it right, it will be worth it.

Thanks a bunch…

I have watched your program since the beginning and love all the programs, especially the ones where you show cutting and piecing. I started with the "Dresden Plate". I first made the plates then appliquéd them to squares. Now I make 5" squares and put them together for friends and am making one for the VFW Hall for a silent auction, from the auxiliary, just because.
I've watched your tips and hints and find that some of them I have been using forever (it seems like) and didn't realize they were not known. Thanks for your program, it's a big help to me..
Through the mail…

On June 16 I lost my mother, Mary Lou Beck, after a long fight with cancer. She and I loved to sew and quilt together since I was a little girl. For Christmas last year she gave me a subscription to your magazine. Mom died at 3 a.m. on the 16th, in that same afternoon's mail came my latest edition to your magazine. I was so touched to know that she can still give to me even when she is gone. I just wanted you to know how much your magazine means to me and to let you know that there is another quilter in heaven.

Quilting came into my life about 4 years ago, and it was love at first try. I’ve been lucky to have friends who have helped me along the way and now we help each other. What fun! I’ve learned that I have a creative spark that just pops up sometime. It made for some unique projects.
Quilting the sea…

I loved the pattern for the Seaglass quilt in your March/April issue, thus I made it for my daughter's wedding gift. The quilt turned out beautifully as I did it in Batiks and fairy frost to look like the sea. The back is a lovely Batik in greens that looks like seaweed on it. It is quilted with a sea turtle swimming to the top of the quilt. My long arm quilter, Rebekah Richardson, did a beautiful job of quilting it for me.
Thanks for the great pattern and I'm sure my daughter will enjoy it, she loves swimming with sea turtles when in Hawaii.
Dear Fons & Porter
I've enjoyed doing Pat Sloan's class "Cupcakes & Quotes". I hope you're going to offer more classes as I'm a handicapped person and can't get to Quilt Shops, etc. to learn new things.
Sincerely, Joan Dean
