Fall offers the full gamut
As the seasons change once again, Fall flaunts its way in with probably the most versatile inspirational tones of all the seasons. It first heralds in with a flurry of brilliant autumn colors and quietly winds down to the more subtle and muted pre-winter tones, but often ends in a finale of blinding shades of crystal whites and ice blue. And, tucked somewhere in between all this color are the dramatic dancing ghosts and witches, followed by traditional cornucopias, scarecrows and pilgrims, and ending with twinkling snowflakes and dancing snowmen in top hats.
Fall is definitely the time to re-visit your stash and start making your list…and checking it twice…whoops, that's the next season, which will also be here in the blink of an eye. But for now, enjoy fall and check out our Nov/Dec issue, which should be on stands by mid October. This issue offers a variety of new ideas such as the knock-your-socks-off "Isabella' design to the bold and beautiful Christmas Mosaic appliqué. So enjoy the new season and prepare to get inspired.

From sugar and spice to snips and snails…

I used the sweet pattern called Positively Charmed from your 2008 Baby Quilts issue. Only, it's a boy.... so used all baseball fabrics and then changed the pretty flower appliques to a bat, ball and glove, and put the last name on the quilt like on a player's jersey ... it is now an ALL BOY quilt. Thanks for the great pattern.
Editor's note: loved the 'personalized name plate', very nice touch!
She pulled the rabbit from the hat and threw in florals…

I wanted to share my version of the Bunny quilt in the recent 2009 Summer issue of Easy Quilts. When I found out my niece, April, was expecting a baby girl, I looked through several recent Fons & Porter magazines for ideas. I found the Bunny quilt and substituted a selection of Kaffe Fassett and batik fabrics in bright colors with interesting flowers and prints--perfect for a little girl. The colors turned out perfect for her selected baby colors and a great size for a cradle or stroller. It was a quick quilt to put together and she loved it! Thanks for supe rb magazines filled with wonderful ideas and patterns.
We were in for a big treat when Lee pulled up to our shop here in Winterset …
Lee Huss, 90, of Des Moines, Iowa, visited our shop on September 15 and brought with him a treasured quilt passed down from a mother, to daughter, to dear friend.

According to Lee, the story goes a bit like this … the quilt was made approximately 100 years ago by a woman named Ella who later passed it on to her daughter Ruth who was very active with Simpson college here in Iowa. This is where Lee's mother comes into the picture. "My mother fell in love with the quilt during the years that she took care of Ruth. So when Ruth passed, the family members wanted the quilt to go to my mother. Mom really loved the detail in this quilt. I can remember admiring it with her when I was just a child."

This gorgeous Crazy quilt was all elaborately hand stitched and embroidered using exquisitely soft velvets. The finished masterpiece was then finally tied with the tie-stitches skillfully disguised as pompom embellishments on the wool backing. And perhaps even more remarkable was simply the wonderful condition that this century-old quilt was in … absolutely lovely.
