A new season – a time to sow and sew
Before long it will be time for some of us nature lovers to swap our scissors for hedge-trimmers and our Bernina for the John Deere. And since this means we will be giving up some of our valuable sewing time to spend outside, we would be wise to pencil in some springtime sewing projects now, while we have the time.

As always, fabric designers will be helping us usher in the coming new season with fresh new lines of gorgeous fabric. And, our March/April issue will be out in a few more weeks! It's loaded with projects covering the full gamut of 'reasons why we have to make just one more quilt'. We've got Totally Cute covered with both the adorable little 'Chicken Dance' table topper, and the highly anticipated 'Brown Bear' pattern.

Stunning is captured in several projects such as 'Chinoiserie' and 'Kimono Rose'; and 'Wow' is front and center with 'Daisy Dance' a beautifully, pieced and appliquéd floral project. In fact, this quilt is the epitome of Spring, we hope it helps inspire you as much as it does us.

From a reader…

I'm but a Quilter
A user of needle and thread
I create designs of color
To lay upon your bed
I know of strips and borders
Of angles, points and stars
Although I make no money
It keeps me out of bars.

I spend my husband's money
On fabric and supplies
He once thought it was funny
But now he only cries
My stash it just keeps growing
All the colors I must own
My credit card I'm owing
I think I need a loan.

My quilts and table runners
Wall hangings and the rest
Are stored in all the closets
So they always look their best

I bring them out for show and tell
Then put them back just so
I would like to keep this going
But shopping I must go
For I'm just a quilter
And hooked I will always be
As I just live for fabric

And fabric lives for me.

Serving up some leftover surprise by Barbara Roberts and Brenda Sheldon

"Thank you so much for all that you do to help all of our 'quilting sisters' through your magazine and television show. A while back, I viewed one of your programs and at the end there was some talk about what to do with the leftover 'stuff' from a project. My 'quilting sister', Brenda Sheldon and I, get together about every Thursday and use up the leftovers. We refer to them as Orphan Block Quilts, as they no longer belong to a specific project. We make various sizes to meet as many needs as possible. We then donate the finished quilt to a wide variety of charities in our local area.

We just wanted to share some of the things that we do on Thursdays beside eat and giggle."

Here are some of the quilts they have made. Click the image to see a bigger version.

Happy Quilting!
