Choppy Video

Videos at are delivered to you through the progressive download method. That means that the video file is loaded onto your computer as you are watching it (in contrast to streaming, which is more similar to a radio or television broadcast where only what is playing back at that moment is on your computer). You do not have to download the full video file before playback begins, however.  Generally playback will begin after the first ten seconds have been downloaded.

If you do not have a high-speed internet connection (or if your network is being slowed down for any  number of reasons), this may cause the video to download slower than it is being played back.  When this occurs, you will experience what appears to be skipping or choppy video.

In this situation, the best way to experience smooth playback of the video is to pause video playback and allow time for the video to download before watching.  By allowing the video to download this far before watching, you are likely to prevent the “skipping” and choppy playback you experienced before.
