Scrap Quilt Patterns Inspired & Designed by Bonnie Hunter

Cool Water QuiltWe’re often inspired by the very designers who feature their quilts in our magazines and our affiliate’s magazines — traditional, easy, scrap quilt patterns… we love them all! Makes sense, right? We invite them to debut their quilts with us because they’re amazing at what they do! We find their creativity and expertise with quilts, quilting and quilted projects to be second-to-none and we love to pass all of this on to you.

One of our regular inspirations is Bonnie Hunter. Take Cool Water by Kris Peterson, for example. This quilt was inspired by Bonnie’s Strip Twist! quilt made from 2½” strips. A gift of pre-cuts, along with a motivated designer, made this batik beauty come to life.

As you may or may not know, Bonnie Hunter is the queen of scrap quilt patterns and scrap quilting. She’s an expert at busting that fabric stash and making stunning (and inspiring) quilts. One of her most popular stash-busting projects is called Wanderlust. She has taken this outstanding scrap quilt pattern and offered it as a free quilt pattern in her course, Wanderlust Quilt with Bonnie Hunter (Scrap Quilting Basics from Beginning to Binding!).

Here’s what Bonnie has to say about this quilt and her course featuring this quilt:
Scrap Quilts - Organize Your Fabric ScrapsI had a great time playing with this layout. I originally thought I would set the blocks straight, block to block. But, then, Sadie (my dog) laid on everything, shifted some blocks and I saw that if I did a half-block drop every other row, I got a fun zig-zag layout. I used batiks, recycled neutrals, print neutrals and a whole bunch of a black tone-on-tone to make those colors sing.

Scrap quilt patterns are a great way to make sure you don’t throw your money away by using up the bits and pieces of leftover fabrics you have in your stash from previous quilting projects.
