Quilts For Kids

About Quilts for Kids
Quilts for Kids is a nonprofit organization dedicated to brightening the lives of children who suffer from abuse or life-threatening illnesses. With the help of respected fabric manufacturers, generous volunteers, and donors, Quilts for Kids transforms high quality fabrics into patchwork quilts that offer comfort to children in need. They offer lots of fun groups, workshops, and special events.

Mission Statement
Transforming fabrics into patchwork quilts that comfort children in need. These are children with life-threatening illnesses, children of abuse, and children living at poverty level and below.

If You Are a Quilter
You can use your stash of brightly colored kid-friendly fabric to create patchwork quilts of your own and donate them. (Remember, they need to be sewn and quilted on a machine with lots of machine quilting so they hold up to all the washings they go through at the hospitals.) For more information on how to donate, take a look at the Quilts For Kids website and their brochure

A message from Linda Arye
Founding President, Quilts for Kids, Inc.

It seems like only yesterday that I discovered a wealth of discontinued fabric samples being thrown away. In those days it never occurred to me that we’d be an international organization today. I was only looking to save some fabric samples from a landfill. I was assured by all my friends and family that this was a dumb idea and no one would make quilts for some stranger’s child…and do it for free! Well, 16 years later we have saved MILLIONS  of pounds of fabric samples from landfills and comforted hundreds of thousands of children in need, globally, with quilts and other items.

You have managed to prove those nay-sayers wrong, for you have given from your hearts and helped to turn tears into smiles for hundreds of thousands of children that you never even knew existed. Our goal continues to be donating 30,000 yearly.

When most fabric mills moved offshore in 2007, those wonderful 18 wheelers loaded with donated fabric were not coming our way any longer. We were forced to find funding to purchase fabric. The fabric companies that had always supported us gave us reduced prices when they could and sent us discontinued samples to enable us to continue comforting children in need. Even the heavyweight fabrics  have become quilts that are sent overseas to orphaned children in developing countries who use them as beds. We are proud to continue our work with Lutheran World Relief.
