Quilted Landscape

Traveling through the midwest, you’ve probably caught a glimpse of quilt blocks decorating the peaks and sides of old and new barns.  A gentle reminder, that our homegrown pride stretches from agriculture down to the needle we sew with.

Last week, a group of us traveled over to Omaha to attend Accuquilt’s Barn Quilt Block contest.

For the last 3 years, they invite quilters, fabric artists and designers around the world to submit their block design.  Winners not only get to come to the unveiling, but are rewarded with a shopping spree of their favorite Accuquilt products. Here’s a photo of CEO(chief Energizing Officer) Steve Nabity,  with the winners.

The grand prize winner of this year’s Barn Quilt Block Contest, is (to the left) Belinda Karis-Nace of Des Moines, Iowa, who is a cross-stitch pattern designer. The winning design is enlarged and displayed as exterior decorations on AccuQuilt’s headquarters building, there in Omaha, Nebraska.

The second runner up, (to the right) is Carol Johnson, who is a truck driver from North Bay, Canada. Her block hangs above the door to the new gallery and Dream Studio.

Accuquilt invites anyone traveling through to stop and be treated to a tour of the AccuQuilt offices, where they’ll meet the AccuQuilt team, stroll through the AccuQuilt Gallery—a must-stop every time you’re in Omaha to see new exhibits and AccuQuilt’s state-of-the-art quilting studio. Finish up your tour with a walk through the warehouse and a stop at the coffee bar. To book your free tour, call 888.258.7913 between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. CST, Monday – Friday. You can also request a tour via e-mail at tours@accuquilt.com.

Happy Quilting!
