Did you know that Fons & Porter publishes not only magazines, but books as well? We are very proud of our quilt pattern books, and are always looking for new authors and concepts to bring to our readers.
That’s why we are thrilled to introduce to you Little House of Quilts by Laura Stone Roberts:
If you have read and enjoyed the writings of Laura Ingalls Wilder or have fond memories of the Little House on the Prairie television show, you owe yourself a copy of this book, a comfy chair, and enough time to settle in and appreciate the sweet, nostalgic quilts inside. Each one was inspired by some aspect of Wilder’s stories of prairie life, from rag dolls to vast nighttime skies, sun bonnets to school houses, and so much more.
Nearly all the fabrics used in the quilts in the book are from the Little House on the Prairie collections by Andover Fabrics. There are several: Mansfield, Prairie Flowers, Prairie Icons, Scenics and Icons, and Walnut Grove. As you’ll see as you click through the links, they are all “of the time” and help give the quilts authentic vintage appeal.
The simple but effective Walnut Grove Sampler (above) combines basic patchwork blocks for the type of quilt that Wilder and her sisters may have made themselves as they were learning to sew. In A Jolly Dolly Afternoon (below), Laura’s doll Charlotte and friends are depicted in sweet simple style. The size and difficulty level of the 14 projects in the book vary from small table quilt to large bed size, and beginner to advanced. There’s truly something for everyone!
Best of all, we’re imagining this book as part of a wonderful holiday gift package for any young girl. A copy of Little House on the Prairie along with this quilt patterns book and a promise to make her a Little House quilt of her own would be all a girl would need for a memorable Christmas from Mom, Grandma, or Aunt.
Or maybe you’d just like to make a Little House quilt for your very own…
