Make The Most Of Pre-cut Fabric Packs!

Quilting Quickly May/June 2017Pre-cut fabrics, or tempting bits of “quilters’ candy” as we like to think of them, are such a convenient way to enjoy all the fabrics in a particular collection. Plus, they reduce patch cutting time incredibly and who doesn’t appreciate that?

Yummy 2½”-wide strips and 5″ or 10″ squares are the usual pre-cuts that we work with (some would include fat quarters, as well), so every issue of Quilting Quickly magazine—our pre-cuts magazine—is filled with unique, fun quilt patterns perfect for using pre-cut fabric packs.

But, once you get your packs home, what do you do with them? Not every quilt pattern works for pre-cut fabrics, but Quilting Quickly patterns do! And the latest issues feature really fun projects like those below.

Get those fabric packs down off the shelf or out of that plastic bin and pick a new quilt to make!

Spring Has Sprung is an adorable lap quilt any girl (of any age) will love. The two pieced flower quilt block designs are easy to make and so cheerful on display. Pamela Morgan made this quilt using 1930s solids by Riley Blake, but this would also be a great quilt pattern for using up your stash. Start work on this quilt and your spirits are sure to rise!

Strippy Diamonds, by Jean Nolte, is a dramatic, sophisticated quilt that’s unbelievably easy to make. The blocks begin with precut 2½”-wide fabric strips, and our free quilting video tutorial shows you every step to creating these fun diamonds. One warning: this pattern is addictive. You may find yourself wanting to make this quilt multiple times with different pre-cut strip packs!

The March/April issue of Quilting Quickly showcases some fabulous quilt blocks. The Nine Patch Garden quilt pattern starts with a simple Nine-Patch, which is then framed with pieces cut from 2½”-wide fabric strips for a richer, more intricate look. This block design would give a wonderful chain effect set side to side, although the quilt pattern itself includes sashing.

Fun, versatile block designs in the March/April issue, including step-by-step photo tutorials and free quilting video tutorials. What more could a quilter want? Maybe even more pre-cut quilt patterns… Take a peek at the latest Quilting Quickly issues or pick up a copy of Quilting Quickly and start your next quilt today!
