Stitching like the wind.

I have been sewing…and sewing…and sewing a little more.

Wanna see what I’ve been working on? Well, okay — don’t twist my thimble. But forget you saw it afterward because it’s a special quilt that will have its day in the sun soon.

There will be red sashing between all the blocks and I think I’m going to do a black binding, actually. The block is a variation of Sister’s Choice and I have to say, I think I like working with red solids as much as white solid.

That’s what they say about ol’ Mary Fons, you know: She’s solid.

  1. This is really beautiful! You have such a knack for adding a modern twist to traditional looking quilts. I put off my desire to quilt for many years because my Mom was the quilter and I wasn’t sure how to find my own style. You are a great inspiration and always helpful when I need a little quilting help and don’t want to ask my Mom for help : )

  2. Mary, I have been a self taught quilter for several years, finally took some classes and I quilt ok. Your are a true treasure in aiming your brief videos toward the newbies. You make it fun and if you were teaching in 1984 when i began I would be a lot futher ahead. You make quilting fun. Keep up the good job.

  3. I just love and appreciate the whole idea of Quilty. I am a beginner quilter and I like to say that I’m learning at the “school of hard knocks” and your videos, lol. But I have learned so much in a relatively short time without a specific “someone” to show me. I owned a machine but had never used it. I knew how to plug it in and that’s about it, lol. I was wondering if you have an episode about machine maintenance and oiling your machine? My book isn’t all that great, lol. I have an old Singer 5050. I would love to purchase one in the future that better fits Quilting and possibly embroidering but…this is now, lol. Thanks! You rock!

  4. Love your project picks, what makes you decide to do a quilt? Do you see somthing that catches your eye or do you look at books and put your own twist on things? That seems to be my method, I love to make it my own. The red quilt is looking great. Quilty is great, and “FREE” . I love watching you with your Mom on PBS also.

  5. Love your site. Also love the Blocks A Go Go with your colours.
It is very informative. I would like to know if you have a video or instructions on putting together a block quilt which is wadded, quilted and backed individually.
I would love to know how to join it. Do you have a book or video available?

  6. […] First up, some news! Mary Fons asked me to quilt one of her quilts, which I was super excited to do, and then it turns out, that quilt will be on the cover of a new magazine! I can’t show it to you, but you can read about the project here and here. […]
