Neat-o Skeet-o, Mr. Barn.

There was a groovy (well it was!) article about barn blocks in the sneak peek of Quilty magazine a couple months ago. Did you see it?

I’m in Door County at the moment, planning to finish not one but TWO quilt tops in the next few days. I’m stoked to be able to get to some patchwork done, though shutting the world out is going to be difficult. Anywhoodle, on my way up here I saw several really lovely barn blocks and thought I’d share.

Among others, I saw this one, owned by a Mr. & Mrs. Smith and photographed by P.J. Dillon:

And I saw this one, owned by the Peninsular Agricultural Research Station. They work here. As you can see by the large sign.

Note: I would like to point out that the above organization is committed to a “USDA potato introduction project.” I would like to say for the record that I enjoy being introduced to potatoes and that they’re doing a fine job.

  1. Dear Mary, Glad you got to see some of our barn quilts! We’re at about 38 now and still growing. It has been a joy to work on this project, combining my love of quilting with the beautiful Door County countryside, honoring our agricultural heritage and promoting rural tourism. Stop by the UW-Extension office next time you’re in town! Pam

  2. There is a quilt shop in Ottawa, KS that is working with local farmers and artists to hang barn quilt blocks. If i remember right they have 16 up and still counting. Chris’ Corner Quilt Shop in Franklin County Quilt Barn Blocks.
