With Thanksgiving just three days away, you may be shaking your head and thinking, “No way is there time to make anything quilted before turkey day.” And you’d be right if you were thinking only of large quilts or items with difficult construction. But we’re here to tell you that with just a few hours to spare between now and Thursday, you CAN make a fresh little quilt to welcome guests or serve as a hostess gift. You just need the right fall quilt pattern, and you need it NOW.
Example #1 – Check out the adorable pilgrim owl in Patrick Lose’s Give Thanks wall quilt at left. He must be so glad he’s not a turkey! With fast fusible applique you can make this sweet little quilt in no time. The pattern also includes instructions for finishing the quilt as a circle in case you’d rather use it as a table mat. Whoooo says you need a lot of time to make a cute Thanksgiving quilt to share with the people you love? Not this guy!
Next up, a huge favorite among quilters, the Let’s Talk Turkey Thanksgiving table runner pattern designed by Jenny Doan of Missouri Quilt Company. This quilt will take a bit more time to make than #1, but it’s still a fast project. With an instant digital pattern download, you can be pulling fabrics for this quilted table runner in just a few minutes. The finished size is 19 1/2″ x 61″, great for the family table. This pattern originally appeared in an issue of Quilting Quickly, so we’re not kidding when we say it is speedy! Cute Dresden Plate wedges create the turkey feathers in a flash.
Example #3 – If a comfy pillow or two or three would complete your autumn decor, look no further! The Log Cabin Leaves pillow pattern designed by Wendy Sheppard uses basic foundation (paper) piecing to quickly make the small Log Cabin blocks. The project rating is Easy, and these pillows also make wonderful gifts. If your foundation piecing skills need brushing up, we’ve got you covered! Watch a free demonstration of the paper piecing technique by Colleen Tauke right here.
Fast fall quilt pattern #4 – The Leafy Tree Top table runner pattern designed by Jenny Doan makes great use of mini charm squares (precut 2 1/2″ fabric squares), but you can also cut up fabrics from your stash. Depending on the fabrics used, you can get a very autumnal feel, or mix things up a bit more and create a table runner you can use throughout most of the year. The leafy theme is a classic design and of course Jenny has come up with the easiest tricks possible to complete this project. The finished size is 21 1/2′ x 51 1/2″.
That’s it for our fast fall quilt patterns. We hope these projects helped get you in the mood for turkey day! And if you’re looking for an autumn quilting project to take you right through the long weekend ahead, here’s one more fall quilt idea – Smoky Point Stars designed by Jayne Cornwell. The digital quilt pattern finishes at 77″ x 95″, and there’s also a free size chart available to download which gives alternate instructions for wall hanging, throw-, and queen-size options.
From all of us, to all of you, a very happy Thanksgiving!
