What is the Christmas spirit?
Christmas quilts is a great answer, but that one might be exclusive to quilters. It seems like a simple enough question, but ask around. You may be surprised to hear that most answers differ, and sometimes, people have difficulty coming up with one.
I have always thought the Christmas spirit to mean good will toward all people – kindness and compassion toward our fellow human beings, even under the most trying circumstances. I like this definition – it doesn’t require one to celebrate Christmas to participate.
As we find ourselves immersed in (and sometimes overwhelmed by) the hustle and bustle of the holiday season, rushing to finish up projects and preparations, it’s important to slow down and remember the reason for the season! Whatever festivities, holiday or people you’re preparing for, we thought we’d offer you suggestions for a simpler way to get those last minute gifts and décor set up so that you can focus on what matters. The Christmas spirit is alive and well with Fons & Porter!
Have you seen the free Quick Christmas Quilt Projects on the Fons & Porter website? These items were collected to offer you projects that can be completed in a matter of hours. They’re quality gifts that say so much in a handmade package.
There are some other free quilt patterns that we’ve been talking a lot about lately at Fons & Porter, so I thought I’d better bring them to your attention. Take a look at our Free Quilting eBooks page and see if there’s anything there that floats your boat. We have everything from appliqué quilt patterns to two-color quilts. It’s a pretty exciting adventure, going through these eBooks, if I do say so myself. Check them out for yourself and you’ll see what I mean!
The Christmas spirit isn’t just about kindness and compassion for those you know, but is a great way to show those you’ve never met that people care about their well-being. In every Love of Quilting magazine issue, we feature a Quilt of Valor. The QoV featured in the Jan/Feb 2016 issue is called Tribute and reminds me of Christmas stars. This is the perfect quilt to give to a serviceman or servicewoman at any time of year.
The Christmas spirit is a state of mind, not a time of year. It’s a year-round phenomenon! How would you describe the Christmas spirit? Leave a comment with your thoughts in the comments section below.
Happy Holidays and Happy Quilting!
