Love of Quilting 1200 Series

1201 - Spin Wheel

Please note that this show is currently available only through your public television station and is not yet available for online viewing.

1202 - Flip Flops

We love to make quilts because it’s just plain fun to sew—but sometimes the pattern is also lighthearted and can bring a smile to your face. You can dig through your stash, find the craziest fabrics you own and put them together into the flip flop quilt that’s on today's show. In this episode we’ll show you how to window fusible appliqué, how to do a variety of machine appliqué techniques, and how to use log cabin blocks to make a border.

Please note that this show is currently available only through your public television station and is not yet available for online viewing.

1203 - Longarm Startup

In this program our special guest is Heidi Kaisand, a beginning longarm machine quilter. Heidi is going to show all of us some tips useful to a beginning machine quilter—we fall into that category so we are anxious to hear what she is going to say. In this episode Heidi will show us how to choose types of quilts to practice machine quilting, the importance of thread color and choosing the right backing fabric, and she’ll show us some easy designs that are great for beginning machine quilting.

1204 - Seams Too Easy

On this program were going to be demonstrating some quilt-as-you-go methods so that you can sew and quilt your block at the same time. So if managing a large quilt and doing the machine quilting on it is difficult for you this will bring your project down to size.  In this episode we’ll show you how to cut block segments from a strip set, how to quilt blocks as you construct them, and how to use wavy appliqué strips to cover your seams.

Please note that this show is currently available only through your public television station and is not yet available for online viewing.

1205 - Embroidered Wall Flowers

On this program Marianne is joined by sewing specialist Susan Fears and is excited to be working with Susan and the absolutely gorgeous quilt she brought to share—it’s called Wall Flowers and it's just gorgeous! The design is terrific and the technique looks very, very interesting. In this episode Susan will show you how to use blanket stitch for raw edge appliqué, how to use embroidery software to edit designs, and how to accurately stitch an embroidery design inside an appliqué shape.

Please note that this show is currently available only through your public television station and is not yet available for online viewing.

1206 - Cutting Mat Bag

As quilters we like to sew with friends or go to workshops, and it’s really helpful to have a tote back to take along our sewing supplies. In this episode we'll show you how to make a nice big one—big enough for your big rotary cutting mat, big enough for a big ruler, big enough for all of the supplies you need to go to a workshop, and even some chocolate for extra energy. In this episode we’ll show you how to make easy handles you can use on any bag, how to use binding to finish raw edges, and how to use scraps to make a matching mini bag.

Please note that this show is currently available only through your public television station and is not yet available for online viewing.

1207 - Ginger's Flower Garden

Some of you may have read about the baby quilt contest that we ran in our magazine and it produced hundreds of wonderful quilts. We liked some of them so much we’re sharing them with you today. In this episode we’ll show you how to make a variety of small blocks, how to cut half square triangles using the half and quarter ruler, and how to cut setting triangles using a special ruler designed for that purpose.

Please note that this show is currently available only through your public television station and is not yet available for online viewing.

1208 - A Tour of Williamsburg, VA with Jodie Davis

Please note that this show is currently available only through your public television station and is not yet available for online viewing.

1209 - Williamsburg Basket

On this program we’re working on a quilt inspired by fabrics that were inspired by colonial Williamsburg. This is a traditional styled quilt using reproduction fabrics and that’s the style that we like because it stands the test of time. In this episode we’ll show you how to make half square triangles using two different methods, how to use the triangle trimmers to make more accurate patchwork, and how to construct a basket block.

Please note that this show is currently available only through your public television station and is not yet available for online viewing.

1210 - Bandana Beauty

On this program we have a really neat quilt with us called Bandana Beauty. It has patchwork blocks but it also has a large, central, appliqué area. Dealing with one of those large designs can be a challenge. In this episode we will show you a large, symmetrical appliqué block, how to make a template to help position appliqué pieces, and how to do an embroidered stem stitch by hand.

Please note that this show is currently available only through your public television station and is not yet available for online viewing.

1211 - Three Zinnias

While we both love to make large quilts (it's our favorite type of quilt to make), sometimes its fun to make a small project that goes quickly.  The little flower pot in this episode is an example of that—I actually made the big quilt and then I made the little one and it went a lot quicker.  In this episode we’ll show you how to do easy diagonal seam piecing, how to make patchwork leaves that look like appliqué, and how to strip piece a checkerboard border.

Please note that this show is currently available only through your public television station and is not yet available for online viewing.

1212 - Painted Patchwork

On this program Liz will be joined by sewing specialist Susan Fears. They have a great program planned for you, full of lots of innovative techniques using Paintsticks, machine embroidery, and free motion quilting. In this episode you will learn how to paint designs using artist Paintsticks, and Susan will show us how to use decorative stitches to painted patchwork and to free motion quilt with a stitch regulator.

Please note that this show is currently available only through your public television station and is not yet available for online viewing.

1213 - Buggy Days

We have an absolutely adorable quilt to share with you today—It’s called Buggy Days and it was designed by Terry Adams who used an old fashioned technique, yo-yos, to make the wheels of her buggy.  We got so many wonderful entries to our baby quilts contest that we ran in the magazine and this was one of our favorites that came in. In this episode we’ll be showing you how to window fusible appliqué so that your appliqués are not stiff, how to make yo-yos, and how to fasten yo-yos to your quilt using your sewing machine.
