Voices from the Quilts A Celebration of Women’s History Whispering from the stitches, early American women spoke through their quilt-work, as they built their homes and this nation. The Fort Scott National Historic Site, in cooperation with the Fort Scott Visitor Center, welcome guests to Voices from the Quilts, March 1 through 31, 2010, at the Fort Scott National Historic Site and locations throughout the City of Fort Scott. The Fort will feature quilt-work from the 1840’s through 1860’s era. View patterns that are still being researched by site staff. See Bleeding Kansas, Civil War, McDonald Family and other unique displays. Stroll through downtown and view the Airing of the Quilts, uniquely displayed from building balconies and trellises. View quilting depictions of Fort Scott family histories that have their own story to tell. Stop in at the Fort Scott Visitor Center and take a Trolley tour of Victorian era homes that continue the walk through history, featuring festive displays, an old time traditions. Mark these dates on your calendar and come prepared to listen as the history of American women unfolds within the unique stitches and patterns. Activities will include quilt demonstrations, vendor participation, guest speakers and Symposiums, as well as hands on quilting, children’s exhibits and previews of early Civil War, and Contemporary artists. A Stitch in Time: Quilts from the Collection of the Greenwich Historical Society

COS COB, CT - A Stitch in Time: Quilts from the Collection of the Greenwich Historical Society will open on Tuesday, March 2, 2010 in the museum gallery of the Greenwich Historical Society. The exhibition offers a rare look at over twenty-five distinctive and colorful quilts made between the early 1800s and early 1900s. The selection of quilts is rich in the history of the people and the town of Greenwich and illustrates the historical and technical aspects of traditional patterns and quilting. The exhibition is curated by Historical Society Director of Exhibitions and Education Kathleen Motes Bennewitz and Curator of Museum Collections Karen Frederick with quilt historian, author and lecturer Sue Reich. The exhibition will remain on view through Sunday, June 13, 2010.

The Greenwich Historical Society museum gallery and Bush-Holley House are open Wednesday through Sunday from 12 to 4 p.m. Admission is $8 for adults and $6 for seniors and students. The Greenwich Historical Society is located at 39 Strickland Road in Cos Cob, CT and features the circa 1730 National Historic Landmark Bush-Holley House, home of Connecticut’s first art colony. Guided tours of the House feature an American Impressionist art collection and historic interiors. The museum gallery presents historically and artistically significant exhibits that focus on the art and artists of the Cos Cob art colony, museum collections and aspects of Greenwich history. Miami Valley Quilters’ Guild (Ohio)
The Miami Valley Quilters' Guilds 2010 show of work from its more than 200 members features quilts and fabric arts representing the entire range of quilting from traditional work done entirely by hand through traditional patterns pieced and quilted by machine and on to the latest in contemporary and art quilts. Vendors providing equipment and supplies for today's quilter and those presenting antique quilted items for sale are available, and guild members offer their own work for sale in a boutique which benefits the guild’s charitable activities. Guild members also will be demonstrating a number of quilting techniques throughout the show. Guild members have created a beautiful quilt which will be awarded by raffle at the end of the show (Need not be present to win. Quilt Festival 2010 will feature more than 100 entry quilts, a special exhibit by featured guild Millennium Quilters of Bridgeport, a display of guild banners, vendors, and a boutique. Educational events include a class by judge Lois Smith on Thursday, a medley of teacher demonstrations on Saturday, a children’s quilt scavenger hunt, educational activities by Marion County Reading Council, and an ongoing demonstration of hand quilting. Other festival events include a sneak peek reception and preview for entrants, sponsors, and vendors on Wednesday evening, a banquet and lecture by Lois Smith on Thursday evening, a grand show and tell on Friday evening, and a Little Quilt Auction on Saturday afternoon. We’re excited to announce the 5th anniversary of our fund raising quilt show in Highlands Ranch CO. We invite you to enter your quilts in our show. We especially want to encourage young quilters to enter their quilts to be judged in their own categories. We’re proud to say our fees remain the same as last year, making your entries as reasonable as possible; your quilts MAKE our show & we love displaying them!
Quilt Entry Fee: $10.00 for each quilt (early bird deadline May 15, 2010). $15.00 for each quilt (final deadline June 19, 2010). An additional $5 non refundable fee required for each quilt listed for sale. Remember, the quilt itself doesn’t have to be finished by the entry form deadlines, but you must send a photo of it with the completed entry form and fee no later than June 19, 2010. (snail mail or online)
Entry forms and rules for the quilt show will be published on our website www.firehousequilts.org after the first of the year. Like last year, you can print them off, fill them out and mail them in OR enter online by populating the online form and paying online (via Paypal) too, whichever is more convenient for you.
