Before I design a quilt, I go fabric surveying. I visit the fabric stores with my digital camera and take photos of the fabrics that I like (after checking to make sure the store does not mind). Then I download the photos onto my computer and place them into the strip or block templates that I have on my computer. This allows me to see how the quilt will look when placing the same fabrics in a different configuration or layout. Additionally, it allows me to visualize the overall quilt and the best fabric combination for it.
