Scant 1/4" Seam

Love of Quilting - July/August 2005
When a pattern calls for a scant 1/4" seam, move the needle position slightly to the right. Even with a straight stitch throat plate on your machine, the needle still goes through the hole without any problem and makes a perfect width seam. You can still use the 1/4" foot, too! (Be sure to test this on your machine before sewing to avoid breaking a needle or damaging your presser foot.)
