Mama Callaway's Bread Pudding & Vanilla Sauce

Bread Pudding

12-14 slices white bread
1-1/4 c. sugar
1 tsp. cinnamon
1-1/2 cans evaporated milk (2-1/2 c.)
2-1/2 c. regular milk (If I don't have evaporated milk, I use all regular milk - good but not as rich)
1-1/2 tsp. vanilla
4 eggs, separated and beaten
1/2 c. butter

Break bread in small pieces, add all other ingredients. Bake in a greased 9"x13" at 350°F for 45 min. (I cover with foil for first 30 min. to avoid over browning.)

Vanilla Sauce

1/2 c. sugar
1 tsbp. cornstarch
1 c. boiling water
pinch of salt
(add these after cooked)
2 tsbp. butter
1 tsp. vanilla

Stovetop - Boil 5 min, remove and add vanilla & butter. Store covered. Microwave - Cook in deep microwave dish to avoid boiling over, for 3 min., one minute at a time, until thickened. Remove and add vanilla and butter. Note: Water does not have to be boiling for this method.) Yields approx. 2 cup- easy to double. Sooo good! Enjoy!
