Interfacing Quilted Appliqué |

| Getting Started
For large shapes with fairly smooth edges, this appliqué technique works well. Fusing pieces to the background eliminates the need for basting. |

1. Trace quilt appliqué shape onto fusible interfacing; cut out about 1/2" outside of drawn line.(Photo A) 2. Position interfacing atop appliqué with fusible side of interfacing against right side of fabric. Stitch on drawn line through both layers. (Photo B) 3. Trim away excess fabric, leaving a 1/4" seam allowance. Cut a slit in interfacing to turn appliqué piece. (Photo C) 4. Turn piece right side out, place on non-stick appliqué pressing sheet, and press shape flat. (Photo D) 5. Lay out pieces on background fabric and fuse in place. (Photo E) 6. Appliqué pieces to background using either a hand or machine stitch. |
