From Marianne Fons & Liz Porter - January/February 2007

Happy New Year from everyone at Fons & Porter!
Once the holiday season is over, we get in the mood to dig through our fabrics, reorganize our sewing rooms, and start new quilts. It’s fun to kick back when the weather is colder and reconnect with our fabric, sewing machine, and tools.
Our retrospective exhibit of 25 quilts made by the two of us over the past 25 years is on display at the Museum of the American Quilter’s Society in Paducah, Kentucky, through February 3. We are thrilled that so many of our quilts can be seen at MAQS. See more information on page 112 or visit www.quiltmuseum.org for details about the exhibit.
This issue is full of new techniques to try. We give you clever ways to use strips (Tossed Greens page 68), step-by-step instructions for using tools designed by Marsha McCloskey (page 48) and Margaret Miller (page 86), and a terrific contemporary quilt by Jane Sassaman that is a blast to make (Suns and Moons page 80).
You’ll also want to check out our latest TV series on public television. The 13 new episodes of series 900 became available to stations nationwide December 2. Go to www.pbs.org and follow the prompts to find your public TV station. If your station is not airing “Fons & Porter’s Love of Quilting,” give them a call or send an e-mail to request the new shows.
Also, we have a new publisher—New Track Media. We’re excited about our new publishing partner. Our association with New Track means you can look forward to more Fons & Porter products than ever before!
Happy quilting,
g
