Been doing this for years! I keep a pair at the machine, one on the ironing board, and one in my tv-watching chair. Get good ones (name brand)--inexpensive, last forever, don't get chips in them!

the children's scissors are great to bring in your "take along" project. The scissors fit in a small bag. Great for doing sewing while traveling.
