Tip a Day Calendar
If you baste a quilt on a hardwood floor, use masking tape to secure the edges of the baking before laying out the batting and top.

Better protect your floors
I happen to have done that with a previous quilt and it was easy scratch the floor with the pins or needles...what I found worked was laying the quilt on my living room's area rug which is thin but provides a good grab and I didn't need to tape as long as I worked from the inside out.
Basting on the floor
If you have problems laying a quilt on the floor, some churchs (if you ask) will allow you to put large tables together. Apply the same set up as on a floor. This will help on back pain.
