Aligning

Tip a Day Calendar
To align the quilt top, batting, and backing for basting, fold each in half and mark the center fold with pins. As you layer your quilt, match the center pins to align the layers.

Aligning
I would go one step further and also fold and press my fabric so that it is in quarters. As you align vertically, you can also adjust as you go horizontally.
